Local Ideas

If you run a small business in Marietta, Georgia like I do, you already know that human interaction is important to build trust with your customers. Community-driven visibility is very dependent on meeting your customers or clients face-to-face, but there are a few things I think you can do to improve your local brand presence online. I have three big ideas for boosting your local marketing strategy on the internet.

Focus on your Google Business Profile.

For a local business, this is priority number one. You want to ensure that the hours, contact information, website and other data are correct on your profile. It is also important to include high-quality, up-to-date photographs of your business, your products or your people. And, perhaps most importantly, prioritize online reviews by incentivising your happy customers to post on your business profile with discounts or other incentives to keep your review stream positive and current. (We also recommend that you respond to reviews, see this blog for more about that.)

Get involved with your community. And post about it.

Face-to-face contact is the core of a good local presence for your small business… we all know this. But don’t forget to give those partnerships and local events some long-term legs. Your organization is, without-a-doubt, making a positive impact on your local community. Your future customers need to know that! When your organization participates in a local event, be sure that you get some high-quality pictures of your participation. And, when you come up with ways to partner with local businesses that you like, be sure to post about how your organizations are working together. And, go a step further by bragging about the success of your partners!

Also, post to your website. Include information about your interactions in the community, your favorite businesses or attractions, or recommendations related to your business. This gives these personal contact opportunities a long-term place.

Include your location in all posts.

Don’t forget that search engine optimization (SEO) is built on local content. The more you generate content related to your location, the more local people will be driven to your corner of the internet.
