— Tommy Redmond, Founder and Master Brand Strategist
Over the past few years, I’ve seen a huge shift in the SEO marketing space. When I founded Octane nearly 15 years ago, keywords, volume and geographic modifiers were the most important components to online marketing content. But, we have seen a shift over the past few years… and it might surprise you.
As the internet began to utilize AI and pack massive amounts of content onto websites, in hopes of attracting the search engines, Google quietly changed their algorithm. You may have read about this on our blog. Here’s what I see after watching this update for the past year.
Quality, Not Quantity
While it is important to post content consistently, the most important component of your content is that it is original, helpful, and trustworthy. Google (which still holds 90% of the search engine market) has been emphatic that these are the new terms for search engine traffic. They now take into consideration the whole picture of a website: reviews, blogs, wording, etc., in an attempt to show users the most helpful content.
Real Experts
In 2024 and 2025, we were all waiting for AI to take over the marketing content space. Instead, the search algorithm changed to favor real people, writing real articles. Isn’t that what we all want? We want to find real information from people we can trust.
Titles with Pronouns
When I started Octane, search engines favored impersonal language. You would see titles of articles like “Top Ten Trends in the Auto-Industry.” As the search parameters evolved, we are now seeing a shift to a more active and personal language preference. So, these days, a better title would be “The Auto Trends I am Loving This Year.” And it would sound even better if we knew the expert that loves the trends!
