Thoughtful AI Use

Everyone is talking about AI use now. It’s no secret that the marketing industry is really excited about it, but the world of AI marketing is not all shine.

It’s a tool that can be used thoughtfully… or it can be grossly mismanaged. One word I keep hearing in the AI realm lately — AI Slop. Isn’t that a great descriptor? You probably don’t need an explanation, but here goes. AI slop is bulky, impersonal, awkward wording, graphics or images that are very obviously not touched by human craft. While AI may be getting better, it still misses the mark in so many ways, especially in high quality content.

We are all getting our sea-legs in this new internet tool, so here are two of my ideas on how to use AI thoughtfully, so you can become more efficient in your work, but also maintain a high quality website.

Remember, you are in charge.

First, think of AI as the new assistant at your company, not the marketing executive. Find simple tasks for the programming to use, like taking notes, offering ideas, creating rough drafts, or helping outline a campaign. BUT, never let something created by AI to reach the public, without intervention from expert hands. Read, rewrite, edit, and re-design each AI output to match your own style and presentation standards.

Also, you can be honest.

There are times when you will use AI that cannot be mediated first. For example, an AI Chatbot on your website or an automated answering service on your phone system. In these cases, be sure to acknowledge that the customer or user is interacting with AI you’ve implemented and always give them a way to reach a real person!

At Octane, I have emphasized authenticity as a cornerstone to our work and our marketing strategies. We think it is the key to an honest, useful and high-powered online presence. We want your company’s ethos to shine through on the internet. If you want to find out more, here’s where you can reach us.
