If you own a business, you already understand that you must know your customers. But, online marketing brings new and different challenges. Here are two important things you should consider when researching your target market.
1. What is your potential customer searching for online?
When a customer does an online search – will they reach your website? Are the keywords they are using going to direct them to your page? A primary way to ensure this: increase the amount of content on your website. The more business related information you include, the more likely your website will turn up in online searches. In other words, you should use words that give your customers more opportunities to find your website.
Quantity is important. But so is quality.
That means your website content should include topics that your customers want to know about. For example, if you are a car repair company, you might include a suggested maintenance schedule for brakes and oil changes.
These are important components to search engine optimization, or SEO. So, the more you information you give online, the more likely you are to attract potential customers. And the more powerful your website can be.
2. How does your customer prefer to communicate?
Not only do you need to know the type of content, or the what. You also need to know the mode, the how. Your website is important, but it is also important to know your potential customers’ social media and email behavior. Do they prefer watching videos or reading articles? Which social media outlets are they using? Do they check email? Are the people you are targeting going to see your special promotions on Facebook? Or are they more of a Snapchat crowd?
