Short Form Video

Is your small business using short-form video? I think they’ve become a great tool for small business owners.

They are inexpensive to create, do not require high production value, and they utilize a medium that is a favorite in the coveted Gen Z and Millenial demographic. Here’s how I think your small business can use video on YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels to engage your customer base.

Tell Your Story

Use short form videos to show how the sauce is made. Make your small business approachable by telling your story in quick clips. You can also give sneak peaks into your office, snippets of quick interviews with your employees, and post special events like birthdays and parties. Focus on keeping the videos informal and fun.

Educate

Give your short-video viewers valuable and desirable information about your particular industry. You can offer quick tips and tricks related to your field of expertise.  Or, give some “insider” information about your service or product. And, creating how-to videos related to your field are highly effective engagement opportunities.

Build A Community

Your customers are unique, but they also want to interact with other like-minded people. The most effective way to utilize your short-form video posts is to foster conversations with your customer groups. You can do this by responding quickly and consistently to direct messages, social media tags and comments on posts. And, if you see a trending question or comment, you can respond to questions and comments with new videos!

Be Yourself

The most important thing about short-form video, just like any other social media format, is authenticity. Short-form video consumers are not necessarily looking for polish. Instead, they are looking for a glimpse into what you are like and what your company does and knows.
