Mythbusters

Are one of these common myths holding your small business back from thriving on social media? Here are three social media myths that we want to bust:

Myth #1: You Need Viral Content

While a viral video may put your brand in the spotlight for a short period of time, it’s very difficult to determine what will catch the internet’s fancy. And sometimes posts go viral for the wrong reasons. While it could be a boost for your company profile, it’s not a goal your company needs to focus on. We think there are two much bigger priorities your company can prioritize: consistency and authenticity. Be true to your brand, post on a regular basis, and respond to inquiries quickly and your followership will grow.

Myth #2: Content Must Be Polished and Perfect

On most social platforms, perfection is not necessary for the videos, photos, and written content. While posts on LinkedIn may need to be more polished, most other platforms have an outlet for raw, imperfect content. In fact, in places like Facebook Reels and TikTok, your audience could look at highly edited content as inauthentic. And, authenticity is a much stronger currency than perfection. And if you wait for perfection, consistently is more important than posting only when you have something perfect.

Myth #3: The More Platforms, The Better

Instead of trying to create a presence on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X (Formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, etc., we think it’s a good idea to pick one or two to start with. Which ones? That will depend on your individual company and your potential customer base. Each platform has its own benefits, audience and specialty. If you can hone in on what is best for your company, you’ll be able to create the right content for that medium.
